[Franklin D. Richards] At Pres[iden]ts office read a letter from President W[illiam]. W. Cluff [politician / Stake President] feeling unable safely to carry out the counsel of the Lord through Presidency in regard to plural marriage, he offers his resignation to the President if he thinks it best to accept it in time to fill the vacancy at their next Quarterly conference. This seems a sad step'-must it be taken.

  2. According to LDS Biographical Encyclopedia Vols.1:340-41 and 4:369, Wm.Wallace Cluff (1832-1915) remained as the president of the Summit Stake of Zion, in total serving 24 years from 1877 to 1901 when he was honorably released.

He kept his honor and was true to the "one wife for one life" scriptural commandment of Jesus Christ. He refused to be conned by the fallen apostle John Taylor.
