President [Joseph F.] Smith had asked Brother [Charles W.] Penrose to put into form for publication by the Associated Press certain questions... :
"Question: Does the Church solemnize or permit plural marriages?
Answer: Certainly not. The Church does not perform or sanction or authorize marriage in any form that is contrary to the laws of the land.
Question: Why then is it asserted that prominent Mormons practice polygamy?
Answer: That is done evidently to mislead the general public.
