George Washington Hill baptizes Sagwitch, the leader of a group of Shoshone Indians, and 101 of his tribe in the Bear River in Box Elder County, Utah. This is the beginning of an important relationship between the Church and the Shoshone. From this group come one of the first Native Americans to be called as a full-time missionary (Sagwitch's son) and the first Native American called as a bishop (Sagwitch's grandson). Sagwitch's family's service continues today with numerous descendants serving missions in the beginning of the twenty-first century.
