The question of missionary labor among the Indians was talked over and a vote taken that we would Educate some young Indians and then send them among their tribes to preach. We also decided to select some white men to take charge of Indian matters. We also decided to make a settlement somewhere in old Mexico.

[Translated from Hawaiian] President [Young] told me that if I can take another wife unto myself, it would be a wonderful thing—if pleasing unto her and her liking; but the problem lies in the fact that this perhaps will be publicized amongst the people; and if this is heard by our enemies, they will resist me in Congress. Therefore, if a woman is sealed to me it would be best if done without the public knowing about it.

Thou mayest have the administrations of the angels of heaven a holy angel shall soon administer unto thee and reveal unto thee thy duty, yea and give unto thee great instructions. ... Thine eyes shall be opened to look within the veil and behold the things of eternity. Yea the Lord of Glory shall appear unto thee. Thou shalt put thy hands upon his feet and feel his wounds with thy hands that thou mayest become a special witness of his name. ... Thou shalt stand in the flesh and see the winding up scene of this generation. Thou shalt remain on the earth to behold the Savior come in the clouds of heaven. Grandison Newell filed a complaint with a Justice of the Peace (apparently with Judge Flint in Painesville) charging Joseph Smith with conspiracy to commit murder. The magistrate issued a writ for Smith's arrest. While such writs were theoretically returnable anywhere in Geauga county, they were usually to into the hands of the township constable for execution. In this case, the writ was effectively rendered returnable in Painesville.
A posse of non-Mormons arrived in Kirtland, seeking Joseph Smith's arrest. This unfriendly group probably accompanied a Painesville constable who held the writ authorizing Smith's arrest. The posse found that Smith had left town and was unable to secure his arrest.

Brother Talmage did not seem to have the spirit he has had, probably due to the fact that he is out of practice and his mind has been more devoted to scientific matters. ...
my brother David ... said there was a discussion in the streets of St. George among a number of brethren over the [former apostle Moses] Thatcher affair, and there were some five or six who were avowed Thatcher men, and who considered that he had been harshly dealt with. Some one or more of them said that they would not pay tithing and would not give means to help the First Presidency to carry out their projects. ...

I took Emma & two of her Children Nelly & Alice & went to the [unfinlshed Salt Lake] Temple & w[er?] drawn up to the top tower in an Elevator myself & family. We all put a Dime apiece into the Top stone [to raise money to complete the temple]. We went through Every room in the House. We saw a great Deal of work yet to be done in order to get the work done by next April Conference.

There was an holy influence felt by me, and it seemed, as on yesterday, that the dead for whom I officiated were nigh me. After passing through I officiated in the ordinance of adoption, Bro. Woodruff having two Brothers by the name of Hardy adopted in his family. I also helped in giving the [two words redacted relating to a temple ordinance] to several parties, some for themselves and some for the dead.
