Stephen A. Douglas died 9 days previous (June 3rd) at age 48 from typhoid fever.
ReplyDeleteBenton had died in 1858 (age 76). He was a Missouri U.S. Senator serving from 1821-1851 (1st ever 5-term US Senator).
