160 years ago today - Jun 16, 1856

Brigham Young's office journal records "Had an interview with Bro[ther]s Jesse Little & Robert Burton about Bro[ther] Kamp taking away his Negro." Thomas Bedford, a Beaver Island resident who had been publicly whipped on James J. Strang's direction, fatally shoots the Strang. Strang had led a large portion of Mormons away from Brigham Young's rule after the death of Joseph Smith.
