The first conference held in the large Tabernacle, in G.S.L. City, was commenced. ... This structure, which had just been completed, was 250 feet long and 150 feet wide, with its immense roof, arched without a pillar. Height of interior, 68 feet from floor to ceiling. During the conference 163 missionaries were called to strengthen the settlements in southern Utah, and the Saints were called upon to assist liberally the following year towards emigrating all the poor Saints from Great Britain.
