  1. Important Note: This was NOT a plural marriage since both Hosea Stout's first two wives (non-concurrent monogamous wives) were deceased as of this date.

  2. Here is more context to this entry:

    " ... widow of the late William Gheen. She has had three children two of whom are dead and one living ... a daughter now nearly eleven years of age. Mrs Gheen was born Nov. 12th 1823 in the State of Indiana Fayette County. She is daughter of Henry and Agnes Harmon. Elder Jonathan C. Wright officiated as minister on the occasion. She lives in the seventh ward of this City."

  3. He has a rather pessimistic outlook on his new marriage. He had been depressed after loosing his last wife (and I think children -- I'd have to check).

    1. Actually, I mis-read his entry. "About Dark" = dusk. I read it as "This evening, a dark change ...."
