115 years ago today - Jan 6, 1909

The Twelve Apostles and the First Council of the Seventy call B. H. Roberts before them, accusing him of questioning the good faith and honesty of the First Presidency and the general authorities. Roberts had previously published an open letter to Richard R. Lyman, a Democrat and son of Apostle Francis M. Lyman, expressing his opposition to Apostle (and Senator) Reed Smoot's political involvement. Roberts stated that he thought it unwise for Church leaders to run for political office.
