[General] Due to report that Stephen A. Douglas has called Utah's Mormons "an ulcer on the body politic," DESERET NEWS publishes Joseph Smith's 1843 prophecy: "Judge [Douglas], you will aspire to the Presidency of the United States," with his warning of failure if he turns against Mormons. Douglas is defeated for presidency in 1860; dies next year.
