[General] Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, and Newel K. Whitney leave Independence, Missouri by stage for Kirtland. En route the horses become frightened and a runaway occurs. The party is delayed 4 weeks while they wait for Whitney's broken leg to mend.
