[J. Reuben Clark]

[In conversation with the stake presidents of Hurricane and St. George ...] Pres. Clark added that as the conversation progressed they seemed apprehensive that the Short Creek situation [raid on the FLDS community] might have stirred up the people and they might be suspicious of them, and they might not be kindly received. Pres. Clark told them that the Church had had nothing to do with the matter, that it had been handled by the Governor of Arizona, and he, himself, had not known anything about it until about 10 days before.
