[Hosea Stout]
President Young sent me for Br G. W. Langley and after Council he informed us that it was reported that 12 dragoon United States horses had been seen taken on an island on the other side of the river and there kept by 3 men. The horses were fully equiped and it was supposed to be for the purpose of kidnapping some of the Twelve[.] The report seemed to be correct and created considerable excitement and agreed well with the report which Sarpee made to J. M. Grant that the United States Marshall was coming here with writs for the Twelve &cnow from this report we had reason to believe that they designed to catch some out and thus run them off on those horses.
