A letter was read from Pres[iden]t. Orson Smith, stating that the erection of a new building for the B[righam]. Y[oung]. College at Logan [Utah] [to become Utah State University] by donation had been favored by the Priesthood meeting of the Cache Stake, and the mind of the First Presidency regarding it was desired. The Council decided that the proposed work should be proceeded with. ...

On application of Prof[essor]. B[enjamin]. Cluff, Jun[ior]., the Council favored the appropriation of $3000 to enable the B[righam]. Y[oung]. Academy [today's Brigham Young University] to settle with the teachers at the end of the school year, the amount to be considered as an advance on next year's appropriation, as it was due the Academy for tuition, etc., and was expected to be collected before the commencement of the next school year.
