The first company of immigrating Saints of the season, which had left Florence May 29th, under Capt. David H. Cannon's charge, arrived in G.S.L. City. The company consisted of 225 persons, with 57 wagons. (1)

[Same-Sex Marriage] The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals motions panel (EDWARD LEAVY, MICHAEL DALY HAWKINS and SIDNEY R. THOMAS), order a longer stay on Judge Walkers decision, so no same-sex marriages will be performed in California until after the District Court makes its decision. In setting forth the order, the District Court called for a very fast track - briefs due mid-September and replies due a month later - noting the case would go to hearings in early December. The motions panel also directed appellants to address the issue of standing - whether they even had the right to appeal the decision to the 9th circuit in the first place, as the only party interested in appealing Walkers decision was the Defendant-Intervenors (the Protect Marriage coalition folks led by Andy Pugno).
