[Apostle Heber J. Grant Diary] Recd a telegram from Apostle F. M. Lyman last evening telling me not to failing in Coming to Salt Lake today to attend a Council at 330 P.M. [He continues in giving an account of his ordination as an apostle by George Q. Cannon, in connection with the rest of the First Presidency, and in the presence of the Quorum of Twelve and First Council of Seventy. Part of the prayer of ordination given by George Q. 2. It was in "John Taylors office" according to Wilford Woodruff's diary entry for that day:

"The presidency Twelve & Presidets of Seventies met at Presidet Taylors office And speeches were made After which The Presidency and Twelve Ordained George Teasdale J Taylor was mouth & Heber J Grant, G. Q. Cannon being mouth into the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles."

I, however, am not sure where the president's office was located. Do you know?

  4. That is what I thought. But looking closer, I've noted a number of references where the "president's office" is listed separately from the Gardo House.

I know there was an office in the Gardo House. But I'm not sure that it is the president's office. For example, note how they are separately referenced:

    - Threats were then made to raise the flags on the Gardo House, Presidents Office, Tithing and Es. News offices, the Temple and Tabernacle, but a number of friends assembled at my home [Abraham H. Cannon Journal Tues., June 30th, 1885]

    - This morning the flags at the City Hall, Temple Block, Deseret News Office, Gardo House, Prest Taylor's office, Z.C.M.I. and County Court House are at half mast. [Heber J. Grant Diary Jul 4, 1885]

Here, John Taylor refers to "the office" as being in the Gardo House. However he does not call it the "president's office."

    - In response to a request of mine to meet me at the office (Gardo House) he came at the appointed time. [Minutes, Quorum of Twelve Mar 31, 1884]

  5. You're right and I am in error. Thank you for the correction. On closer study & examination I found the following in the Encyclopedia of LDS History (Garr,Cannon,Cowan) on p.210 under the heading "Church Office Buildings":

"Headquarters were next located in the President's Office, which was built in 1852 ... . It connected the Beehive and Lion Houses on South Temple Street and served the 1st Presidcy. thru the admins. of Presidts. BY, JT, WW, LS, & JFS-1, a total of 65 years [until 1917 when the CAB was completed]. During this period the Gardo House was also used occasionally."
