B. H. Roberts called and read a letter to the Presidency from a gentleman who had given the Book of Mormon a close reading. He called Brother Roberts' attention to the fact that the passages quoted in the Book of Mormon from Isaiah are identically the same as the Bible text; and as no two persons could possibly translate in precisely the same language, this man asked for an explanation in regard to this matter. Brother Roberts had prepared an answer to the same, and now read it to the Presidency, who approved of Brother Roberts' views regarding this matter as perhaps the best reasons that could be given in the absence of a knowledge of the facts.

Nephi had in his possession the brass plates that contained the writings of the ancient Hebrew Prophets including Jeremiah and Isaiah his predecessor. See 1 Nephi 5:10-13.

ReplyDelete[10] And after they had given thanks unto the God of Israel, my father, Lehi, took the records which were engraven upon the plates of brass, and he did search them from the beginning.
[11] And he beheld that they did contain the five books of Moses, which gave an account of the creation of the world, and also of Adam and Eve, who were our first parents;
[12] And also a record of the Jews from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah;
[13] And also the prophecies of the holy prophets, from the beginning, even down to the commencement of the reign of Zedekiah; and also many prophecies which have been spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah.
One doesn't need to be a rocket scientist to understand this!
ReplyDeleteThe KJV translation of Isaiah contains some errors. The Book of Mormon selections of Isaiah contain some of those same translation errors. This complicates the matter to an extent.
