Jonathan Holmes polygamous marriage to Elvira Annie Cowles

This is incorrect. This was a legal and lawful 1st marriage for both per GDSmith, Nauvoo Polygamy (2008), p.203, and TCompton, In Sacred Loneliness (1997), p.85, pp.547-548.
This info was from George D. Smith's Dialogue article on Nauvoo Polygamy. Perhaps he realized this was the first marriage and updated the info in his book that was published six years later.

ReplyDeleteGeorge D. Smith's book, Nauvoo Polygamy, was 1st published Dec.5, 2008 - 14 years after his preliminary work cited above (not 6 years later).
