[Apostle John Henry Smith Diary] Salt Lake City

Prest. Wilford Woodruff said to me today that if he was to be adopted [by] any man aside from his own father that man would be George A. Smith as he was the most fully honest man he ever knew and that he was a virtuous man in every respect. In company with Jos. F. Smith we examined the Nauvoo sealing records.

Surely you jest Wilford! The following behavior is not virtuous in ANY respect:

"In addition to his first wife Bathsheba (1841), [George A.] Smith married Lucy Smith (1844), Nancy Clements (1845), Sarah Ann Libby (1845), Hannah Maria Libby (1845), Zilpah Stark (1845) and Susan E. West (1857). His wives (6 plural) bore him twenty children, eleven of whom were still living when Smith died [in 1875]." [per Wikipedia, and DMQ, MH:OP, pp.581-582].

George Albert Smith (grandson of George A.) was verily "a virtuous man in every respect."
