[Apostle Wilford Woodruff Journal] President Joseph Smith then called upon Hiram Smith, Brigham Young P P Pratt Lyman Wight & Sidney Rigdon who were duly sworn & gave in their testimony, which occupied most of the day. They went through the whole seene of the persecution from Jackson county ... even President Joseph Smith with his companions in prision loaded with chains were FED with nothing for FIVE Days in succession but the Flesh of their OWN BRETHREN which was actually cooked & given to them to eat & while hearing this part of the testimony my Blood boiled within & the spirit of war rested upon me for the space of two days. The Lawyiers were shocked to the soul. ... the whole testimony will be published to the world in pamphlet form & probably other wise & will stand as a history to future generations of the unparelled persecution of the State of Missouri against the Saints of the last days.

When were JS & his companions ever imprisoned in Jackson County?
ReplyDeleteLiberty Jail, 12 miles north of Independence, Mo -- December 1, 1838 to April 6, 1839.
ReplyDeleteThis is just the warmongering of the "Danite brethren" trying to demonize the Jackson County Missourians and at the same time inciting the able-bodied male church members to take up arms and to shed their blood - all without any credible evidence. Incredulous. Cursed are the warmongers for they shall be called the children of the devil.
ReplyDeleteViolence was perpetrated from both sides, not just one.
DeleteI'm not sure what you mean saying church members shed blood without credible evidence. Evidence of what?
no credible evidence ... for being fed for 5 straight days in Liberty jail with the flesh of their own brethren.
Deleteso-called LDS church members were being incited to violence to shed blood, i.e., JS ordered Porter Rockwell to assassinate former Mo. Gov. Boggs, which fortunately for JS's eternal soul failed - Boggs was only wounded, but he did lose some blood, and no doubt suffered some pain & distress. All the Missourians reactions were the result of JS, et.al. being the instigators of the aggression.
Liberty Jail is not in Jackson County, but is in Clay County, MO. JS was never imprisoned in any Jackson County jail. Show me the HC volume and page no. that states that.
ReplyDeleteWhat this whole thing could also be all about was the cruel & sadistic taunting of the jailors towards JS and his companions telling them falsely that that's what they were actually eating.
The correct date for the last date given was April 16, 1839 (not Apr.6).
ReplyDeleteThanks for the correction. You're probably right that they were never imprisoned in Jackson County.
