President Young remarked to A. Carrington and others of the brethren who were present that Abel Lincoln must either learn that South Carolina will conform to the Constitution of the Government or he must not take his oath of Office, if he does take the oath of Office he must then compel South Carolina to be submissive to the Constitution of the Union, or he must break his oath of office'- President Young said the US Officers will be scarce here if they do not get their pay. They hate the Mormons because they feel they will rule the world. The worst thing about it is the Blacks will kill off their families and they in their turn will be slaughtered by thousands. I regret many of the innocent will be killed. I am like the woman who saw her husband fighting with a Bear, her husband called upon her to assist him, she replied I have no interest in who whips [who]. ...
