Now in this time I attached myself to John D. Lee's family to become his adopted son in the order of God and obedience of the gospel and in this time the Endowment commenced in the house of the Lord, the Temple in Nauvoo. John D. Lee was one amongst the first that was chosen to receive his Endowment.
